Content
The Camino Francés, the most popular route of the Way of St. James,
starts at the French village Saint-Jean-Pied-de-Port close to the Spanish border.
The way crosses the Pyrenees to Roncesvalles. Then it goes through four
Spanish autonomous regions: Navarra, La Rioja, Castilla y León and Galicia. The major
cities of Pamplona, Logroño, Burgos and Léon are passed until the destination
of Santiago de Compostela is reached. There, according to legend, the remains of
St. James, one of the Twelve Apostles of Jesus, are held.
Some pilgrims walk on to the end of the world: to Finisterre.
